Latin America without America?

Latin America without America?

Among all the major continents on Earth (e.g., Europe and Asia), Latin America is most likely to be the last without much influence from the USA. However, American influence over it has been rapidly reduced over the past few decades for one reason: China!

Four main perspectives:

  • Latin America as European colonies.
  • Latin America wants to be independent.
  • America’s interference in Latin America
  • China has been investing a lot in Latin America.

Let me highlight each …

1. Latin America as European colonies

2. Latin America wants to be independent

Below is an excerpt from The independence of Latin America:

After three centuries of colonial rule, independence came rather suddenly to most of Spanish and Portuguese America. Between 1808 and 1826 all of Latin America except the Spanish colonies of Cuba and Puerto Rico slipped out of the hands of the Iberian powers who had ruled the region since the conquest. The rapidity and timing of that dramatic change were the result of a combination of long-building tensions in colonial rule and a series of external events.

Unfortunately for Latin America, the USA started interfering in the 1820s …

3. America’s interference in Latin America

Two informative readings:

As a result, Latin America is screwed, almost totally!

The image below highlights one perspective.

Here is a recent news story highlighting another perspective: Pro-Bolsonaro rioters storm Brazil’s top government offices.

4. China has been investing a lot in Latin America

5. Discussion

My four previous posts related to the subject:

America, reform our failing political system, as I have suggested (History 2.0 – China’s Comeback vs. America’s Decline), or become a fiddle, second to China!

6. Closing

Latin America belongs to the USA’s sphere of influence in the world of Three New Kingdoms. However, if the USA keeps challenging Russia and China in their respective spheres of influence, without minding its own business, do not be surprised to see America’s sphere of influence, including Latin America, being squeezed over time!
