Crisis: Ukraine vs. Cuba?

Crisis: Ukraine vs. Cuba?

The worst crisis in the world today is the war in Ukraine, which, if not managed well, may destroy us all as a species (This Is How World War III Begins). The crisis is often compared with the Cuban Missile Crisis, and hence the solution should be similar too (How JFK Would Pursue Peace in Ukraine).

I agree with this analogy in principle, but would like to take this opportunity to better understand the Cuban Missile Crisis, the war in Ukraine, JFK, and Joe Biden.

1. What was the Cuban missile crisis, anyway?

Read Wikipedia – Cuban Missile Crisis. Below is an excerpt:

The Cuban Missile Crisis, also known as the October Crisis (of 1962), was a 13-day (October 16 – October 29, 1962) confrontation between the United States and the Soviet Union, which escalated into an international crisis when American deployments of missiles in Italy and Turkey were matched by Soviet deployments of similar ballistic missiles in Cuba.

In short, this crisis was directly provoked by America via its deployment of missiles in Turkey (and Italy).  The final solution was to reverse the provocation by withdrawing the missiles from Turkey.  This is exactly what happened via the “secret” agreement between JFK and Nikita Khrushchev.

2. What is the war in Ukraine, anyway?

Read The war in Ukraine: one year on. Two highlights:

  • It was provoked by the post-1991 NATO expansions toward Russia.
  • It is an American proxy war against Russia, fought by Ukraine with American weapons and Ukrainian blood.

Simply put, if this war is a crisis comparable to the Cuban Missile Crisis, a real solution should be similar too: addressing the root cause by reversing NATO’s post-1991 expansions toward Russia! For more, read The War in Ukraine Was Provoked – and Why That Matters to Achieve Peace.

3. JFK

Like most, if not all, American Presidents, JFK acted with one paramount purpose throughout his first term: getting re-elected ad nauseam. Two examples:

  • He chose to end the war in Vietnam only after he would be re-elected.
  • He first created a crisis (e.g., the Cuban Missile Crisis), knowingly or unknowingly, and then resolved it as a hero.

For a more critical review of JFK, read my book cited at the end of this post.

4. Joe Biden

Joe Biden was a part of the provocation of the war in Ukraine over the past 30 years, at least, especially throughout his eight years as the VP to President Obama. Furthermore, President Biden could have prevented the war in Ukraine from breaking out (Russia’s Ukraine invasion may have been preventable). He chose not to, knowingly or unknowingly.

Now, he has an opportunity to match JFK in resolving the crisis of his time. Will he seize the opportunity?

Most likely not!

5. Closing

It is time for the world to truly understand the Cuban Missile Crisis, the war in Ukraine, JFK, and Joe Biden! This post has helped, hopefully …

America, reform our failing political system, as I have suggested (History 2.0 – China’s Comeback vs. America’s Decline), or face a bloody revolution (A quarter of Americans open to taking up arms against government, poll says).
