Top 10 American misconceptions about America

Top 10 American misconceptions about America

America is a very confused country filled with such loaded slogans as “All men are created equal,” “We the People,” and “Toward a more perfect union.”

Why is that?

Read Brainwashing and America.

Misconception 1: The American Revolution was about freedom

The American Revolution was not about freedom (or liberty) per se. Instead, it was chiefly instigated by rich colonists (e.g., Samuel Adams and John Hancock) who simply did not want to pay [more] taxes. Additionally, they wanted to expand colonialism beyond the original 13 colonies without Britain.

In other words, by freedom, they meant freedom for themselves and for themselves only! For more, read What is the American Revolution, anyway (V3)?.

Misconception 2: “All men are created equal”

This big slogan from the Declaration of Independence was very powerful and useful against the British King at the time. But it is false—then, now, and forever.

Misconception 3: “We the People”

“We the People,” so begins the U.S. Constitution. It refers to everybody except for the minorities, women, and even white men without [enough] property. It is a lie, as well as a bankrupting slogan!

Misconception 4: Thomas Jefferson was a great President

He is the profound reason America is so profoundly in trouble today! Two highlights:

  • He set out America on the wrong footing (a la “that government is best which governs least”), with little focus on governance. Governance is everything for a country built to last.
  • He set out America on a wrong path (a la “all men are created equal”), leading America to its single-minded pursuit of voting rights over the past 200 years, without meritocracy. Meritocracy is key to a country built to last.

Misconception 5: America is of/by/for the people

America was founded by/of/for the rich with money behind everything, from politics to justice.

America remains so today despite all the considerable progress over the past 200 years.

Misconception 6: George W. Bush was an Okay President

He is the world’s #1 war criminal this century (Desmond Tutu calls for Blair and Bush to be tried over Iraq).

His Presidency is defined by the 9/11 attack and America’s response, which was much worse than the attack itself. Specifically, he recklessly launched the Iraq War in March 2003, at least partially for the sake of his re-election bid in 2004, thus ending America as well as American democracy as we knew them.

Misconception 7: “Toward a more perfect union”

It is an often-used excuse for America’s problems (A More Perfect Union” (1989) – America Becomes a Nation)!

What, then, is a perfect union for America?

How about using a Chinese notion: harmony?

The image below highlights the challenge America faces in becoming a harmonious society.

Bottom line: The union will never be made “perfect enough” for the people because the foundation is flawed, with poverty, crime, and injustice being inherent and perpetual!

Misconception 8: Democracy is the best form of government

Democracy has been proven to be a failure throughout history, and there is no single example of lasting success (e.g., 200 years).

America is proving to be no exception. The image below offers one example!

  • For those who get it, no explanation is necessary.
  • For those who do not, no explanation is possible.

Misconception 9: Our military fights for the country!

No, not after WWII. Since then, it has been fighting for the MIC!

Misconception 10: America is the greatest country in the world

This claim is not only presumptuous but also ignorant.

America was born as a new colonial power. Now, as the last big colonial power standing, America is finally collapsing (Colonial America 1776-2040?).

The image below highlights (1) what is wrong with America and (2) why Trump won the 2024 election. For more, read Why and how did I vote for Trump in 2024?

Bottom line: America can no longer be trusted, given its back and forth between Trump-to-Biden and Biden-to-Trump, on top of the screw-ups by Presidents Bush II (Correctly Assessing President George W. Bush) and Obama (Correctly Assessing President Barack Obama) this century alone!
