What is the key difference between the U.S. and the People’s Republic of China (PRC)?
They were born differently, almost totally opposite to each other! The U.S. was founded for the super-rich (aka “the top 1%” in today’s terms) via the American Revolution, whereas the PRC was founded for the poor via the Chinese Communist Revolution.
1. What is the American Revolution, anyway?
Here is a famous quote:
The image below highlights the mother of all lies!
In short, it is a revolution for the super-rich (aka “the top 1%” in today’s terms). For more, read What is the American Revolution, anyway?
2. What is the Chinese Communist Revolution, anyway?
It is a revolution for the poor, including killing the rich, as highlighted by the image below.

3. Comparing the two revolutions
To me, the key difference between the American Revolution and the Chinese Communist Revolution can be most easily explained by Marxism: the former was a bourgeois revolution, while the latter was a proletarian revolution.
3.1 What is a bourgeois revolution?
Below is an excerpt from Wikipedia – Bourgeois revolution.
Bourgeois revolution is a term used in Marxist theory to refer to a social revolution that aims to destroy a feudal system or its vestiges, establish the rule of the bourgeoisie, and create a bourgeois state.[1] In colonised or subjugated countries, bourgeois revolutions often take the form of a war of national independence. The English, French, and American revolutions are considered the archetypal bourgeois revolutions, in that they attempted to clear away the remnants of the medieval feudal system, so as to pave the way for the rise of capitalism.[1] The term is usually used in contrast to “proletarian revolution“, and is also sometimes called a “bourgeois-democratic revolution“.
Here is my simple definition: a bourgeois revolution is for the rich.
3.2 What is a proletarian revolution?
Below is an excerpt from Wikipedia – Proletarian revolution.
A proletarian revolution is a social revolution in which the working class attempts to overthrow the bourgeoisie. Proletarian revolutions are generally advocated by socialists, communists and most anarchists.
Marxists believe proletarian revolutions can and will likely happen in all capitalist countries, related to the concept of world revolution.
Here is my simple definition: a proletarian revolution is for the poor.
4. America: from 1783 to today
America was founded for the super-rich (i.e., top 1%), with money behind everything, especially in politics – Yes, bribery in politics (e.g., “campaign contributions”) was legal in America!
Despite the considerable changes over the past 200 years, America remains for the super-rich (i.e., top 1%), with money behind everything, especially in politics – Yes, bribery in politics (e.g., “campaign contributions”) remains legal in America!
The image below highlights today’s America, just like it was 200 years ago!
The image below offers one major perspective.
As a result, America has been so poorly governed throughout its life so far that it is no longer governable. For more, read Is America no longer governable?

5. China: from 1949 to today

6. The U.S. vs. China in governance
Two images below offer a simple comparison that is worth more than 1,000 words.
Simply put, the government controls the super-rich in China, but it’s the other way around in America.
The image below spells out the key difference between the U.S. and China today and tomorrow!
In short, a bloody proletarian revolution may be coming to the crime-ridden America!
7. Chairman Mao and Richard Nixon
Here is a rumored dialog between Chairman Mao and Richard Nixon in 1972:
- Mao: “Aren’t you worried about a revolution, as guns are so widely available?”
- Nixon: “No. Revolutions are not caused by guns, but by the smart people at the bottom. The American system allows the smart people to move up. So, there will be no revolution in America.”
Nixon seemed right at that time, but time has proven the following:
- Mao’s instinct was incisive, totally! For Mao, a brilliant military leader, if people have access to guns, he can surely lead them to power. For more, read Political power grows out of the barrel of a gun.
- Nixon’s comment that “the American system allows the smart people to move up” was only partially correct at best. It has turned out that China actually has a better meritocracy system not only for society but also for its political system. For more, read the book cited at the end of this post.
- What about Nixon’s comment that “there will be no revolution in America”? Read A quarter of Americans open to taking up arms against government, poll says.
8. Closing
The American Revolution was for the super-rich, and America remains so today. In contrast, the Chinese Communist Revolution was for the poor, but China has, over the past few decades, transformed itself into a form that is truly for the people (i.e., rich and poor), though still with a long way to go toward the ideal.
America, reform our failing political system, as I have suggested (History 2.0 – China’s Comeback vs. America’s Decline), or face a bloody revolution (A quarter of Americans open to taking up arms against government, poll says).
