Apparently, democracy did prevail over communism, but actually, when one looks deeper, it did not!
1. The USSR ended in 1991
The Cold War ended with the disintegration of the USSR in 1991. After that, most countries in the Eastern Bloc, including Russia, quickly adopted democracy, with a worldwide belief that “democracy prevailed over communism” …
Not only is this belief incorrect, but it has also caused huge tragedies in the Eastern Bloc (and beyond) since then, from the Bosnian Genocide (the mid-1990s) to Ukraine (2014-present), as highlighted by the image below.
2. From communism to democracy
For Eastern Europe, communism appeared to be very bad – There was no freedom accompanied by abject poverty under communism. However, democracy brought chaos, which is even worse than communism in some countries. Three examples:
- Russia: Read Post-Soviet Russia.
- Yugoslavia: Read Wikipedia – Breakup of Yugoslavia.
- Ukraine: Read Pope Francis Says NATO Started War in Ukraine by “Barking at Putin’s Door”.
In other words, the folks there were victimized twice in a row: first by communism and then by democracy!
How to explain all these?
Simply put, communism, by 1991, appeared to have been totally defeated. However, it was defeated by the communist countries themselves, not by democracy!
3. What is communism, anyway?
It has turned out that communism has two phases:
- A proletarian revolution to overthrow capitalism (or a bourgeois government).
- An evolution to “state capitalism”.
China has gone through both phases, succeeding hugely with no ending in sight.
In contrast, most, if not all, Eastern European countries, including Russia, failed to advance to phase 2 – They gave up too soon!
4. Separation of democracy and capitalism
There is one main reason behind the incorrect belief that “democracy prevailed over communism”: In the West, democracy and capitalism are often used interchangeably. It’s time to clearly separate them for one key reason: China!
Simply put, capitalism and democracy are totally separable. The West succeeded thanks to capitalism (and colonialism) despite democracy, while China is succeeding with state capitalism, with neither colonialism nor democracy.
For more, read China’s state capitalism = communism + capitalism.
5. Discussion
Democracy did not and will not prevail over communism per se!
Worse yet for the West, not only is communism alive and well, as in China, it will soon finally end Western colonialism, while exposing Western liberal democracy as a big, fat lie!
Three informative readings:
- American democracy: what is it and what’s wrong with it?
- Longevity: American Democracy vs. Soviet Communism.
- Colonial America 1776-2030?
For Eastern Europe, it’s time to realize the mistake of blindly embracing democracy and take some corrective actions. Some countries (e.g., Russia, Belarus, and Hungary) already have. But most others are simply unaware of the mistake, or in denial. Worse yet for them, the West keeps fooling them with EU membership and even NATO.
Two informative readings:
- Are Democracy and NATO a lethal combination?
- Ukraine war shows West’s dominance is ending as China rises, Blair says.
For Western Europe, most countries have simply been acting as America’s lapdogs, while living off from the leftover of colonialism. Their fate is tied to America – They are thus challenged, just like America is, to get out of the rabbit hole of democracy, which is actually a lie built on top of colonialism!
For America, reform our failing political system, as I have suggested (History 2.0 – China’s Comeback vs. America’s Decline). The alternative is to face a bloody revolution (A quarter of Americans open to taking up arms against government, poll says), thus starting phase 1 of communism in America!
6. Closing
Democracy did not and will not, prevail over communism per se!
On the contrary, China’s state capitalism (aka “communism” in America) is the best form of government today. It will not only finally end Western colonialism, but also prevail over democracy, most likely!

These are so painful to read. Frank, I don’t think you realize that most Americans can see through Chinese propoganda. If you truly want to educate, then it’s great to point to flaws in the American system. But saying China’s system is perfect is disingenuous.
In your book or writings, do you address Chinese treatment of Uyghurs? How about the speaking out against the government? How were Dong Yaoqiong or Li Tiantian treated for dissent?
Are people truly happy in China? If so, why did you leave? Or why wouldn’t you have gone back to give your child the best life possible?
How was your dad treated when he was investigated by the Chinese government? You never bring up his charges and fines.
You leave out so much, for someone trying to “educate”.
