“We the People,” so begins the U.S. Constitution. It was a very powerful slogan for a new nation, which was founded with neither a king nor a pope.
Unfortunately, it was a lie in 1789, and it remains wrong today!
1. America in 1789
The image below is worth more than 1,000 words.
Two notes:
- America was founded by/of/for the rich, with money behind everything, especially in politics. For more, read What is the American Revolution, anyway?
- “We the People” included everybody, except for the minorities, women, and even white men without [enough] property. As a result, only 6% of the American population was eligible to vote in 1789 (S. voting rights timeline).
Bottom line: “We the People” and “We the moneyed interests” are really the same thing for America in 1789!
2. America in 2022
The image below is worth another 1,000 words.
Two notes:
- “We the moneyed interests” remains unchanged from 1789 to 2022.
- “We the white, male, and property-owners” (aka “We the rich”) in 1789 has become “We the indistinguishable” in 2022.
3. The change from “We the rich” to “We the indistinguishable”
Here is how the change happened in three major milestones as follows:
- 1920: 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution gives women the right to vote. It is a good thing in general – Gender discrimination was wrong.
- 1965: Voting Rights Act of 1965 smashes all the state and local Jim Crow laws. It is good thing in general – Racial discrimination was wrong.
- 1971: 26th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution lowers the voting age from 21 to 18. It is a bad thing. For more, read History 2.0 – China’s Comeback vs. America’s Decline.
4. Why is the change bad?
Meritocracy is the key for a country to be built to last, if you know anything about Confucius. More on this in Section 8.
4.1 Meritocracy in voting rights in 1789
The image below offers a highlight.
4.2 Meritocracy in voting rights in 2022
There is none!
The image below highlights the “indistinguishable” masses in 2022.
5. Who to blame?
Blame the Founding Fathers first!
Simply put, these two big slogans have contributed to the big mess today: hugely expanding the voter pool without meritocracy!
6. Discussion
What is democracy?
The image below offers one extreme example of how “We the People” think and behave nowadays.
A more hideous outcome: People seem to have much power or believe they do, but actually they do not – The moneyed interests do!
Specifically, over the past 100 years at least, there has been only one American President who was truly elected by “We the People” (vs. moneyed interests behind the establishment): Donald Trump!
The image below highlights how his Presidency ended (Even Trump’s Defense Secretary during the Capitol Riot Blames Him for Inciting It).
7. President Trump and the U.S. Constitution
Below is an interesting assessment. For more, watch the video at the end of this post.
8. More discussion
The image below highlights a key foundational difference between America and China. It is a key reason for China to claim the 21st century.
Without meritocracy, America has become very chaotic and ungovernable. Below is a reality check with three points:
- The government is not trusted at home, with an approval rating of 38% (vs. China at 95.5% – The Harvard Gazette: Ash Center research team unveils findings from long-term public opinion survey).
- Everything has become political.
- Everything is subject to debate.

9. The solution for America
The image below highlights my solution.
Two notes:
- Remove money from American politics.
- Change “We the People” to “We the intelligent People”, by adding some kind of meritocracy.
10. Closing
“We the People” is nothing but a bankrupting slogan!
