Here is the news of the day: Russia launches invasion of Ukraine.
Below is a nutshell for this Russia-Ukraine thing:
- 1991: The Cold War ended with the disintegration of the USSR. The USSR was reduced to Russia plus some “former Soviet republics”. Unfortunately for the world, instead of seeking peace in Europe, NATO started expanding eastwards. But Russia was too weak to push back.
- 1997: Russia and NATO reached an agreement (“1997 NATO Russia Founding Act”, https://www.nato.int/nrc-website/media/59451/1997_nato_russia_founding_act.pdf). Unfortunately, NATO failed to honor it, expanding further eastwards. Russia was still too weak to push back.
- 2008: NATO decided to open its door to Ukraine and Georgia. (See Bush backs Ukraine and Georgia for NATO membership.) As a result, Russia invaded Georgia to prevent Georgia from joining NATO, ever!
- 2014: A mob backed by the CIA overthrew a democratically-elected government in Ukraine. (See How and Why the US Government Perpetrated the 2014 Coup in Ukraine.) As a result, a pro-West government was installed. Russia fought back minimally by taking Crimea back.
- 2022: Russia is finally strong enough to fight back (Don’t mess with nuclear Russia!), Ukraine 1st.
In short, Russia has major issues with NATO, with Ukraine merely being in the way!
What, then, is NATO?
Below are two major perspectives:
- “NATO is obsolete”, Donald Trump, 2016.
- “NATO is brain-dead”, Emmanuel Macron, 2019.
Here is my take: NATO is merely an extension of America’s evil MIC (America’s Evil Military Industrial Complex)!
Here is my prediction of how Russia will end NATO: by installing missiles in Cuba and/or Venezuela, thus causing Cuban Missiles Crisis II. For more, read What does Putin want and will he get it?.
Peace!
