Today’s Economic Releases:

Home Price Trends from CoreLogic Through August 2022 showed year-over-year home price appreciation slowed to 13.5% in August, the fourth consecutive month of lower annual growth. Price growth is projected to decelerate to 3.2% by August 2023, with more metro areas now likely to see decreases.

The number of job openings decreased to 10.1 million on the last business day of August Hires and total separations were little changed at 6.3 million and 6.0 million, respectively. Within separations, quits (4.2 million) and layoffs and discharges (1.5 million) were little changed. The bottom line is that job openings are still significantly high, but it appears business in general either is faced with a slowing marketplace or is figuring out how to get by without additional hiring.

New orders for manufactured goods in August 2022, down two consecutive months, were down but virtually unchanged. The unfilled orders-to-shipments ratio was 6.01, down from 6.05 in July. Inventories, down two consecutive months, decreased $1.2 billion or 0.1 percent to $800.2 billion. This followed a virtually unchanged July decrease. The inventories-to-shipments ratio was 1.46, down from 1.47 in July. This data release is indicating manufacturing is pretty much stable.

DoE Scientists Reveal New Process At Tokamak Fusion Reactor

Scientists at the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL) confirmed they can drop boron powder into a tokamak fusion reactor. The research showed a powder dropper can successfully drop boron powder into high-temperature plasma within tokamaks that have parts made of a heat-resistant material known as tungsten. The scientists wanted to confirm they can use this process to apply boron to tungsten parts because bare tungsten walls can hurt plasma performance if the plasma damages the tungsten. Because of

U.S. Shale Won’t Fill Gap If OPEC+ Cuts Oil Production

The U.S. shale industry won’t step in to fill the gap left by an OPEC+ crude oil production cut, energy executives told Reuters on Tuesday. While some in the industry have pointed out that cutting its targets isn’t the same as cutting actual production, the fact that the group’s most prolific oil producer, Saudi

Micron To Spend Up To $100 Billion To Build New Plants In Upstate New York

It isn’t just Intel scrambling for real estate in the U.S. to build chip plants…

It was reported this week that Micron will be spending up to $100 billion building what is being called a “mega-complex” of chip plants in the northern suburbs of Syracuse, New York. It would mark the single largest investment in New York state’s history, a report from Syracuse.com says.

The company is expected to unveil details about the project this week. It is expected to create up to 9,000 jobs over the next 20 years, according to U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer and Gov. Kathy Hochul.

It’ll also bring 50,000 supply chain and construction jobs to the area, the report says.

Proving that liberal politicians do support capitalism and billion-dollar companies when it fits their narrative of job creation, Schumer commented: “This is incredible and transformative news for Central New York and for the entire U.S. economy. It’s going to make Central New York one of the centers of high-end chip manufacturing, not just in the United States but in the world.”

Speaking about Micron’s CEO, Schumer said: “He was very eager for the U.S. to pass the Chips Act. And every time we spoke, I told him: I want you to look at Central New York.”

Experts Warn Homebuyers Of Red Flags Beyond Climbing Interest Rates

Authored by Mary Prenon via The Epoch Times (emphasis ours),

Over the past two years, houses nationwide were going like hotcakes, with sellers often receiving tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars over the asking price. Buyers often waived inspections and picked up some of the sellers’ costs in dire hopes of securing that coveted single-family home.

Meta Terminating Midtown South Office Lease Amid Cost-Cutting Push

Meta Platforms Inc.’s sweeping plans to reorganize teams and decrease headcount will also include scaling down operations in New York City, according to Bloomberg, citing people familiar with the matter.

Last week, CEO Mark Zuckerberg gave a gloomy outlook on the economy and the need to implement a hiring freeze and restructure employee teams in the latest effort to trim costs.

“For the first 18 years of the company, we basically grew quickly basically every year, and then more recently our revenue has been flat to slightly down for the first time,” Zuckerberg told staff Thursday.

“I had hoped the economy would have more clearly stabilized by now, but from what we’re seeing it doesn’t yet seem like it has, so we want to plan somewhat conservatively,” he added.
